Summary:Sixty-six patients with fractures of the proximal part of the humerus, attended our clinic between 1979 and 1983, were reviewed. The fractures were subgrouped according to Neer's classification. Fifty-five of these cases were treated conservatively, and eleven were treated surgically. The end results were evaluated according to Rowe's criteria. In this series as a rule eighty-six per cent achieved good or exceelent results. All cases in group I had good or excellent results. These cases were usually expected to have satisfactory results with a triangular sling followed by physiotherapy. In group III four cases of unreducible fractures were treated by percutaneous pinning using Kirschner wires. And these cases had better results than the non-operative cases.
