Summary: | In this paper, the prospect of community revitalization through riverfront redevel opment was discussed by examining two case studies, Hakatagawa Yumekairo project in Fukuoka City and Higashisenba Boardwalk project in Tokushima City. Three major lessons were found: recognizing riverfront redevelopment as an effective tool of community development, necessity of collaboration among local government agencies, citizens and experts, and a political framework of recognizing riverfront space as an element of the local community. |
