| Abstract | Seven patients with arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in which their initial symtom occured over 60-year-old were reported. The average age of these patients was 68.1 year-old. Those cases accounted for 3.5% of all AVM cases. The AVMs located in the supratentorial region in all cases. Intracerebral hematoma due to ruptured AVM was the initial symptom in 4 cases. In other cases, associated aneurysmal rupture, seizure disorder and TIA attack was the first symptom, respectively. Finally, five AVMs had ruptured and four cases were operated for hematoma removal. Functional recovery of the patients was not very good in hematoma cases. According to the literatures, the incidence of AVM in elderly was not rare and ratio of their rupture was not uncommon. AVM is an important clinical entity on diagnosing and treating elderly persons with cerebrovascular disease. |
