Abstract | In addition to antibiotic resistance, the other factor that causes treatment failure and chronic and recurrent staphylococcal infections in burn patients is biofilm formation in these strains9. Since the ability of biofilm production by MRSA increases antibiotic resistance, hospital patients infected with these strains are at serious risk for treatment failure 11. [...]by micro broth dilution method in Luria- Bertani (LB) broth (Hi-Media Mumbai, India) using serial two-fold dilutions of Zn-NPs in concentrations ranging from 2 - 2500 µg/ml, initial bacterial inoculums of 2×108 CFU/ml and the time and temperature of incubation being 24 h at 370C, respectively MIC were determined 2,3. There occurs a concern with toxicity and safety issues regarding the expanding growth of nanotechnology and nano biotechnology, and related industrial products. Because of their wide range of practical applications including their use in sunscreens and cosmetics, and these recent indications of their toxic nature, nano scale metal oxides such as ZnO is a current focus of the Nanotechnology Safety Initiative under National Institute of Environmental Health and Safety. [...]in the future, ZnO nanoparticle containing formulations may be utilized for external uses as antibacterial agents in ointments, lotions, mouthwashes, and surface coatings on various substrates to prevent microorganisms from attaching, colonizing, spreading, and forming biofilms in indwelling medical devices. |
