Summary:The present paper reports the first record of occurrence in the Arabian Sea and extension of distribution of Meganthias filiferus from the Thailand coast of the eastern Indian Ocean. A single specimen measuring 211 mm SL was collected from a commercial trawler operating in the Arabian Sea off the south-western coast of India during August 2008. The two known specimens of this rare species are compared.
