Summary: | A rare case of desmoplastic fibroma arising in the maxilla of a 20-year-old man is reported. He was referred to our department because of a swelling in the right cheek. CT imaging revealed a unilocular radiolucency in the right side of the maxilla. After antibiotic therapy for infection, surgical enucleation of the tumor with curettage of the surrounding bone was done under general anesthesia. The surgical specimen measured 25×25×20mm. Histopathologically, the tumor was composed of fibroblast-like cells with abundant collagenous fibers. There has been no evidence of local recurrence on 2 year follow-up. |
