Abstract | Résumé
Abstract
This study examines Euro‐Canadians' attitudes toward employment equity programs and their beneficiaries. According to the proposed model, which draws on the work on racial prejudice, personal and collective interest are related, but only the latter is associated with racial prejudice. Moreover, it is postulated that collective interest and racial prejudice are linked to negative attitudes toward visible minorities and toward existing employment equity programs. In all, 142 male employees participated in this study, which was conducted in a firm where an outstanding employment equity program was implemented. The proposed predictive model was evaluated using LISREL VII. The analysis in part supports the predictive model. Only the link between collective interest and evaluations of the competence of visible minorities was not significant. The practical implications of the results are discussed. |
