Summary:This paper describes the use ofthe Partial Credit Model (PCM)to measure Economic Literacyinchildren, with Ordered Multiple-Choice Items (OMC).We developed OMC items based ona Piagetianmodel that proposes three progressive levels inthe development ofconcepts and reasoningabout the economy.InOMC format, eachofthe possible answer choices was linked to a cognitive stage ofeconomical thinkingproposed bythe theory. The items were administered to 1035children,ages 10to 15years,and calibrated usingthe PCM.The results show boththe utilityofOMC items and the efficiencyofPCM as tools for the score, analysis, and interpretationofdiagnostic assessments constructed in a Piagetian framework.
