Summary:Conversion of cobalt‐doped layered zinc acetate into zinc oxide: Twinning is an often‐observed process during crystallization or mineralization of ZnO. However, if minor Co doping of a precursor is allowed, a twin free formation of highly regular hexagonal platelets of ZnO microcrystals displaying piezoelectric behavior is observed. Tessellation of these crystals by the Langmuir–Blodgett technique using n‐butanol is possible, albeit only over small areas, if the surface is covered with a polyelectrolyte prior to deposition. This accounts for a subtle charge‐mediated orientation of these crystals on the substrate. More information can be found in the Full Paper by J. J. Schneider et al. on page 9319.
