Summary: | Anxiety is a highly prevalent co-occurring condition in youth with ASD and one of the most common concerns reported by parents regarding their child with ASD. Making a diagnosis of anxiety in youth with ASD is complicated by symptom overlap between the 2 conditions, a shortage of validated anxiety instruments for this population, and the presence of language, cognitive, and socioemotional impairments. These measurement challenges can confound diagnosis and delay treatments and sometimes result in inaccurate prescribing of medications. |
