Abstract | This review synthesizes current knowledge on zoonotic risks in Indian aquaculture, examining the complex dynamics that drive the emergence and transmission of aquatic zoonotic pathogens. It highlights the diseases' significant threats to fish health welfare, public health and aquatic ecosystem sustainability. In response, the review advocates for a comprehensive One Health framework as a critical strategy for mitigating these risks. Drawing from literature, case studies, and policy analyses, it emphasizes the importance of integrated surveillance, interdisciplinary research, and coordinated policy interventions. The feasibility of implementing One Health in India is explored through stakeholder roles, governance structures, and technological innovations. Ultimately, the review underscores the need for a unified approach that harmonizes fish, human and environmental health to enhance fish health welfare, public health, and ecological sustainability in the Indian aquaculture sector. |
