Summary:While "immigration" has become an ever present theme in the French media, especially during election periods, its spatial complexity is often overlooked. Advocating for a strengthened geographical approach to international migration in France, the article first sets out some of the main conceptual and topical developments in this academic field. It then draws up a panorama of some of the territorial features of immigration in France, at different scales (from the state to the neighbourhood), emphasising how complex and sometimes paradoxical they often are.
