Summary: | Routine diagnostic procedure consisted of clinical gynaecological examination including ultrasound examination of the mass and a catheterisation of the urethra to exclude a prolapse of the urinary bladder or an inclusion of the urethra in the process. The chain-loop is narrowed in a slow and constant manner. (e) The wound margins of the mucosal gap are adapted with simple interrupted sutures using the suture ends of the previously administered sutures Case number Age (years), breed Days postpartum Location and diameter of prolapsed tissue Number of calvings before surgery Number of calvings after surgery Complications 1 4, Eringer 4 Right/ventral, 10 cm from vulva; 10 cm 1 data not available no 2 5, Eringer 26 Right side, 15 cm from vulva; 20 cm 2 data not available no 3 5, Eringer 15 Left side, 10 cm from vulva; 15 cm 3 2 no 4 5, Eringer 249 Right side, 10 cm from vulva; 15 cm 2 1 no 5 5, Eringer 13 Right side; 15 cm 2 1 no 6 5, Eringer 15 Right/ventral 10 cm from vulva; 20 cm 2 3 incomplete removal as too close to the OEU 7 (6) 7, Eringer 13 Right/ventral 10 cm from vulva; 15 cm 4 1 incomplete removal as too close to the OEU Number 7 is a recurrence of number 6 OEU, orificium externum of the urethra Swabs soaked with lidocaine (2 per cent) were applied around the pedicle of the mass, and if the animal still showed signs of pain, an infiltration of lidocaine (2 per cent) at the base of the mass was administered. With manual tension applied to the perivaginal fat ( Fig 1 c), a row of staggered simple interrupted sutures incorporating the mucosa and submucosal tissue was administered around the base of the mass, using Catgut USP 7 (Braun Aesculap, D-78532 Tuttlingen) suture material and leaving suture ends of about 30 cm length in place ( Fig 1 c). The owners were advised to restrict breeding to artificial insemination with bulls having positive progeny evaluation for calving ease. |
