Abstract | This conclusion to a collection of clause grammar descriptions from a systemic functional perspective identifies typological motifs & proposes generalizations about the ideational, interpersonal, & textual metafunctions within various languages. These descriptive generalizations are based on the lexicogrammatical systems mapped out for each language in this book, as well as on data from additional languages. An example of a function-rank matrix is given; such a matrix shows how the metafunctions are distributed across various environments of the lexicogrammar, specifically the clause. Each metafunction (ideational, interpersonal, & textual) & its subsystems are discussed in detail, & variation across metafunctions (projection) is briefly addressed. 21 Tables, 8 Figures, 213 References. C. Brennan |
