LG miffed at lack of facilities for relocated units in industrial areas [Times City]
Following an SC direction Delhi government had in 1996 launched a scheme to relocate industries operating in nonconforming or residential areas in violation of the Master Plan Delhi to confor ming areas by allotting alternative industrial plotsA total of 51837 applications were received under the scheme Of these 27985 units were found eligible, finally 21759 plots were allotted Only about 200 units are operational now, another 300 are in various stages of construction said officialsThe scheme was entrus ted to the Delhi State Industrial, Infrastructure Development Corporation in 1998The allotment of plots began in 19992000, was completed in 2010 Yet these industrial areas are totally unoperational with even basic infrastructure missing from areas like Bawana, Bhorgarh a fter 26 years said an official of the LGs secretariatOfficials said the LG was dismayed at the raw deal being offered to small industrial units in the city who despite having closed their factories, paid the required amounts to relocate were not able to start afresh Apart from causing loss of economic a ctivity this has also caused loss of employment opportunities, pushed back the overall development of Narela Bawana, Bhorgarh in northwest Delhi
